450SEL 6.9 (Euro-Spec)

What We Like

The 450SEL 6.9 is the epitome of a "flagship" vehicle, featuring self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension combined with a massive 6,834cc V8 engine providing 286 horsepower and 403 lb-ft. of torque, making it the quickest and fastest European sedan in the world for several consecutive years. Only 7,380 450SEL 6.9s were built worldwide, and this European-spec example has had just two owners from new. The second owner bought the car from its original owner in 1985, and subsequently imported it to the US where it has been driven and lovingly maintained in Georgia for decades, as proven by 40+ years of included documentation and service records. If you're searching for a classic European car that is exclusive, fast, and comfortable with excellent history, this 450SEL 6.9 is an excellent choice!

Vehicle History & Overview

The 1979 450SEL 6.9 was the contemporary flagship of the S-Class and is based on the long-wheelbase version of the W116. As a European-spec example, this particular car is powered by a 6,834cc M100 V8 engine that produced 286 horsepower and 403 lb-ft. of torque when new, making the 450SEL 6.9 the quickest-accelerating and fastest European sedan in the world for several consecutive years. The selling dealer states that they acquired this car in January 2023 from its second owner, who reportedly bought it from the original owner in 1985 and had the car legally imported into the US, with the associated documentation included in the sale. The second owner kept this 450SEL 6.9 in Georgia for the majority of its life, and is currently on a Georgia title issued in 1987. Modifications are said to be limited to 15" Centra wheels, an upgraded stereo, and Mercedes-branded wood shift knob. 40+ years of documentation, the 1985 importation paperwork, a pair of US-spec taillights, and factory manuals/service books accompany the sale.
