This Mustang was reportedly sold new to the seller's grandfather in 1965 and has remained with the family since. Other than an upgraded 4-barrel carburetor, the car is believed to be mechanically stock, and reportedly received a repaint in the original Honey Gold Poly color approximately 15 years ago. The optional 289ci V8 engine and 3-speed automatic transmission are thought to be original to the car. The factory 2-barrel carburetor and intake are included.

Ford's iconic Mustang was launched in mid-1964 as a 1965 model and forever changed the affordable performance-car segment. For 1965, three body-styles and two engines were offered, and thanks to parts-sharing with other models the Mustang was relatively affordable. Ford sold more than one million Mustangs in the first 18 months of production, far surpassing the original sales goals. The example featured here is a hardtop coupe and is equipped with the factory optional 289ci V8 engine.
