1979 Porsche

911SC Targa

What We Like

Few cars stir the soul like a Porsche 911. This 1979 911SC Targa, believed to be a Euro-market example, offers the bonus of being able remove the center roof section for a bit of sun. The 3.0L flat-six benefits from a fully-documented refurbishment in 2017, including updated cam tensioners and a myriad of additional items. A repaint in what is believed to be Wine Red Metallic provides curb appeal, and a functional A/C system featuring a new compressor helps ensure comfort for passengers. This 911SC Targa is an opportunity for an air-cooled 911 enthusiast to "get-in-and-drive."

Vehicle History & Overview

This 911SC Targa was sold new in Europe prior to US importation. The car has also received a color change to its current lustrous hue, believed to be Wine Red Metallic, and has retained its original black interior color. Provided records show an engine refurbishment in 2017, including updated cam tensioners and much more. A new A/C compressor was installed in 2021. Upgrades include a front chin-spoiler, chrome headlight trim, racing-insired interior door release, and an aftermarket audio unit/speakers.

Porsche's Targa model was born as a result of roll-over crash standards and was the only way to buy an open-top 911 for many years. 1979 was a carry-over year for the 911SC as major updates had taken place the year before. The Super Carrera, or SC as it was known, recieved a larger 3.0L flat-six and flared rear fenders, along with a variety of trim upgrades. This engine would carry-on pretty much unchanged for several years and was paired with a 915-series 5-speed manual transmission. The Targa has become popular with open-air 911 enthusiasts seeking additional occupant protection and structural rigidity.
