1980 Mercedes-Benz

450SL

What We Like

Mercedes-Benz has a long tradition of producing cars with a dual nature. This 450SL's classic lines hide a brawny 4.5L V8 engine paired with an athletic chassis that is equally at home cruising comfortably or carving corners. Finished in China Blue with a matching hardtop, this SL features Euro-style headlights, an AMG-style front valance and side skirts, and 14” BBS wheels that further enhance its refined nature. The seller purchased this 450SL to commemorate her late mother, as it was a car she’d always wanted in a color she’d always loved. For the seller, the time has come to allow someone else to enjoy this sophisticated motorcar. Will it be you?

Seller Information

Vehicle History & Overview

This 450SL was purchased by the seller to commemorate her late mother who had always wanted a convertible Mercedes in China Blue. The seller has added less than 1,800 of the 73,200 miles shown since her acquisition in October 2021. Modifications include Euro-style headlights, AMG-style front lower bumper valance and rocker panels, and 14” BBS wheels. The hardtop, stand, factory owner’s manuals, two keys, and service records are included.

The R107-chassis SL-series made its North American debut in 1972 with the 4.5L V8 engine seen in this example. The 450SL featured a 4.5L V8 developing 190 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque paired with a 3-speed automatic and was the most powerful SL sold in the US until the advent of the 560SL. Amenities included automatic climate control, wood trim, power windows, and an automatic antenna. A body-color removable hardtop was offered, as seen on this example.
