1959 Jaguar

Mk I 3.4 Project

What We Like

Very few cars are revolutionary. This Mk I 3.4L is an example of a revolutionary design shift for Jaguar that would carry them for the next two-plus decades. Innovations included a first-for-Jaguar unibody design, with the front suspension mounted to a separate subframe. In addition to the larger 3.4-liter engine, this Mk I is equipped with the optional four-wheel disc brakes and an aftermarket stainless-steel exhaust system. Prior long-term ownership, receipts for parts purchased since 2012, and a variety of included spare parts all add to the appeal. Offered at NO RESERVE, this running project Mk I is a great opportunity for someone to save and refurbish a revered British motorcar.

Vehicle History & Overview

This final-year Mk I 3.4L saloon was reportedly purchased by the prior owner in 2013 and was subsequently driven for approximately seven years before being taken off the road for refurbishment. The selling dealer purchased the unfinished but running project in January 2023 and has added several miles, verifying that the car drives currently. Desirable equipment includes the optional four-wheel disc brake system and an aftermarket stainless-steel exhaust system. A number of spare parts, many of which appear to be new, are included.

Jaguar launched the Mk I saloon 1955 in both 2.4L and 3.4L guises, each initially known by their respective displacements until the Mk I name was bestowed upon the cars later. The Mk I was the first Jaguar to utilize unibody construction of the chassis/body and the independent front suspension design was advanced enough that it carried on with minor revisions in the later XJ models launched more than a decade later. This final-year Mk I features the optional four-wheel disc brakes. A contemporary road-test of a 3.4L automatic saloon similar to this example reached a top speed of nearly 120 mph. Series production of the Mk I ended in 1959.
