The Scrambler is historically significant as Ducati’s first off-road motorcycle. The simple design, low weight, proven components, and reinforced chassis combined to create a versatile machine with solid off-road capabilities. This bike has been stored since its refurbishment and is ready for its next owner to enjoy. This Ducati Scrambler has spent the last several years as part of a collection. A refurbishment was completed approximately three years ago. prior to being setup for exhibition. Per the seller, the motorcycle was ridden for a short period of time to verify proper mechanical operation, and was then drained of all fuel and set up for display. The seller states that this Ducati can be ridden after adding fuel, or displayed in its current condition.
The Ducati Scrambler concept was brought about as a request from the Berliner brothers, a US importer, after they converted a 250 to a flat-track racing bike. In 1962 the 250 Scrambler debuted as a 4-in-1 machine that could tackle off-road and on-road challenges with just a few changes to equipment, such as handlebars and exhaust. Extra components supplied as part of a competition kit allowed for flat-track racing. Changes over the standard 250cc engine included a sportier camshaft, higher compression ratio, and larger carburetor. The frame was reinforced and gained adjustable Marzocchi rear shocks, telescopic front forks, and larger drums brakes front/rear. This multipurpose motorcycle was capable, successful, and has become sought-after today due to its influence over future models.
