1964 Porsche

356C Coupe

What We Like

Low weight, nimble handling, an upgraded engine, last-of-the-breed provenance, and a restoration performed under prior German racer Willi Kauhsen in 2015 all combine to create one very desirable 356C Coupe. This vehicle was set up for vintage-style rallying and was campaigned in Europe post-restoration. Upgrades include a re-spray/color-change to its current lustrous shade of blue, larger 1,980cc engine, refurbished chassis and suspension, re-trimmed interior with grey leather sport seats, additional safety equipment, and required rally instrumentation. This is an opportunity for those seeking to enjoy a rally-spec Porsche based on the legendary 356.

Vehicle History & Overview

Originally built for the Italian market, this 356C 1600 was restored by in 2015 under the ownership of former German racer Willie Kauhsen. The car was restored by Classic Racing Cars of Germany. Under the refurbishment, the original 1,600cc engine was removed and a larger 1,980cc engine was fitted and tuned to approximately 137 horsepower. Other upgrades include a repaint in its current shade of blue, retrim of the cabin including a pair of grey leather sport seats, roll-bar, trip-master, Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel, and a pair of vintage Agat CCCP stopwatches.

Porsche's 356 was originally launched in 1948, with the C-series seen here arriving in 1964. Various improvements were made over earlier models, but the biggest was the inclusion of disc brakes as standard for all models. These cars are the final series of the 356-platform and offer the greatest factory performance of the model-range. Production and deliveries ceased in May 1966.
