In the early 1990s, Subaru decided to go rally racing, and the legendary WRX was born. A turbocharged flat-four engine, 5-speed manual transmission, and all-wheel-drive were paired with the compact and lightweight Impreza chassis with fantastic results. In 1995, power was increased to 260 PS, wheel diameter increased to 16-inches, and the brake rotors were upgraded to ventilated discs. The Type RA further enhanced the WRX by removing any unnecessary weight, swapping-in a close-ratio gearbox offering faster acceleration, and adding limited-slip center and rear differentials to further improve handling.
