1961 Ducati

48 Sport

What We Like

Ducati has a history rich with incredibly fast street and racing machines, but many are likely unaware of their other earlier offerings. This 48 Sport is an early bike that is believed to be highly original, showing heavy patina but minimal wear on commonly worn touch-points. A factory toolkit is located in the rear under-seat storage compartment and modifications appear to be limited to a velocity-stack in place of the standard air-cleaner. This motorcycle is a fantastic NO RESERVE opportunity for the next owner to perform a full restoration or simply execute a mechanical refresh and enjoy this historically significant Italian motorbike as-is.

Seller Information

Vehicle History & Overview

This Ducati 48 Sport was recently acquired by the selling dealer from long-term prior ownership out of the Pacific Northwest. The bike shows heavy patina, but per the selling dealer also appears to be highly original. The selling dealer further suggests the typical wear-points are in surprisingly good condition and although the engine spins it is currently not running. A factory toolkit, also believed to be original, is still located in the under-seat storage and is included. Modifications appear to be limited to a velocity-stack in place of the standard air-cleaner.

The Ducati 48 series of motorbikes was geared towards students and young adults, mostly with the intent of increasing overall sales volume. Power is provided by a 48cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder air-cooled engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The gear-change is conveniently incorporated into the throttle grip. Top speed is reportedly 50 mph. To combat the rough image US motorcycle owners had in the early 1960s, Ducati would often promote the 48 series bikes through ads depicting smiling, college-educated individuals.
