In preparation for auction, the selling dealer reports replacing the head gasket, rebuilding the carburetor, flushing the cooling system, and performing an lube/oil/filter service. The FJ40-series Land Cruiser was launched in 1960. Thanks to simple body-on-frame construction, reasonable dimensions, and a back-to-basics approach in terms of interior and drivetrain, the FJ40 was very competitive in the marketplace. Over the years the Land Cruiser has earned a reputation for incredible reliability and near-indestructibility. That reputation has helped make the FJ40 and its derivatives very popular among off-roaders as well as for military applications. Production carried through 2001 for the Brazilian market, with ROW production ending in 1984.
