Vehicle History & Overview

Chassis JN165073 is believed to be number 12 of 39 cars built for the Canada-based Rothmans Turbo Cup Race Series. Canadian dealer Mark Motors of Ottawa enlisted racer David Seabrooke to campaign this car for three seasons. Allegedly, Seabrooke kept the car after the final season and a restoration was completed in April 1991 under the next owner. A prominent Connecticut-based Porsche collector and historic race car driver purchased the vehicle in 2002 and ran it in multiple events through 2021. The car was originally finished in Alpine White and is currently painted Mint Green with a Rothmans livery. Historical and service documentation since 2002 is provided, including vehicle logbooks.

Porsche's 944 Turbo Cup series was designed to allow amateur racers easier entry into the world of motorsports. The cars were designed to be mechanically identical to maximize driver competition. Porsche achieved this by taking the already capable road-based 944 Turbo and endowed it with less weight, a stripped interior, eight-point roll cage, race-seat for the driver, some powertrain tweaks, an upgraded chassis/suspension, and stickier tires. By all accounts the series was a success and ran for several seasons globally. Today, these cars are sought-after for their well-balanced chassis and relatively low cost of entry into historic sports car racing.
