3.0CS

What We Like

BMW's E9-series coupe is arguably one of the most beautiful vehicles produced in the late 20th-century. Less than 1,000 miles ago, this 3.0CS was the beneficiary of a multi-year, $73k-plus refurbishment including a repaint/color-change to the current radiant blue, new carpets, re-chroming of factory parts, refinished wheels, refurbished carburetors, and more. Receipts for the refurbishment along with additional service records are included. This 3.0CS provides an attractive opportunity to purchase a classic, rejuvenated BMW coupe.

Vehicle History & Overview

Research indicates this car was originally finished in Polaris Silver Metallic and later imported to California from Japan. Starting in 2017 this BMW underwent a $73,000-plus, multi-year refurbishment that was completed in 2019. Less than 1,000 of the 66,400 miles shown were added post-refurbishment. Receipts for the refurbishment, additional service records, owners manuals/books written in Japanese and displaying "BMW Tokyo Corp." are included.

BMW's E9-series coupe was launched in 1968, with this 3.0CS variant following in 1971. One of the last cars designed under Wilhelm Hofmeister, the sleek bodywork was fitted over a chassis shared with the E3-saloon variant and both cars were known as "driver's cars." The 3.0CS was powered by a carbureted version of BMW's 3.0-liter "M30" inline-six powered rated at 180 horsepower and could be paired with a three-speed automatic, as seen in this example. Racing versions of the 3.0CS were affectionately known as the "Batmobile" due to their widened bodywork and large wings. Production of the 3.0CS ended in late 1975.
