THE SCULPTURE:

Dimensions: Approximately 9" (L) x 2.5" (H) - shipped in a special printed box with protective foam.

Location & Shipping: This piece is located in San Dimas, California, and is sold where-is. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility.

The sculpture is an original resin piece, colored black, designed in the shape of a Porsche 356 in Dufour's distinctive aesthetic and handcrafted by the artist.

The piece being auctioned is # 001 of 356 total pieces of a new version celebrating the artist's first sculpture--also a 356--nearly 20 years ago. The piece is individually numbered and signed by Dufour.

The sculpture was created following Dufour's bespoke, multi-step process perfected over decades of refinement. First, he creates a clay "master" sculpture, which becomes the basis for a plaster mold, followed by a silicone mold, from which each resin sculpture is made. Once each tinted resin piece is removed from the silicone mold, Dufour sands and polishes it to glossy perfection.

"The very first sculpture I ever did was of a Porsche 356," says Dufour. "Starting in the late 1990s, I had this idea to make a sculpture of a car on a trailer with a cover on it, but a cover that still allowed you to see the shape of the car. The style that you see now – small, very simple, very stylized – was what eventually came from that idea. My goal now is to show the car as it first exists in a designer’s mind, just before he sits down to draw some doodles of its shape – almost like the dream that comes just before the vision."

All sales proceeds from this NO RESERVE auction will benefit The Humane Society of the United States, which aims to create a more humane society by helping animals across the country and around the world through its rescue, response, and sanctuary work, as well as other hands-on animal care services.
