1973 Porsche

911 RSR Reproduction

What We Like

Car enthusiasts often wonder what it would be like to drive a racecar. Few ever get the opportunity. The guiding principle behind this 1973 Porsche 911 RSR reproduction build was to bring that racecar spirit to the street. Built by renowned Porsche specialist Kundensport and presented in historic Gulf blue, this car is based on a genuine "long-nose" 1973 Porsche 911. Reproduction RSR parts, a larger 3.5L flat-six, and upgraded 915 gearbox combine to create a racecar-like experience that's still usable on the street. The "big-bore" 3.5L engine maintains the original RSR's high-rpm character while offering better drivability. Genuine RSRs are considered priceless artifacts and often command seven-figure price-tags, making this 911 a special opportunity to replicate the racecar sensation at a fraction of the cost of the original.

Vehicle History & Overview

Chassis #9113103388, a 1973 Porsche 911, was purchased by the prior owner specifically to create an RSR "clone." In 2011, the car was transformed at renowned Porsche specialist Kundensport. A carbureted, "big-bore" 3.5L flat-six engine was selected to maintain the RSR character while still being suitable for the street. Weber 46 IDA carburetors, DC90 camshafts, larger valves, and ported/matched intakes highlight the engine upgrades. The 915 gearbox features upgraded internals to handle the extra power. Refreshed suspension and RSR-style Fuchs alloys wrapped with period-correct Michelin TB15 rubber create a solid footprint while Porsche 930 Turbo-based brakes bring everything to a halt. Interior appointments include the RS-style steering wheel, RSR-style roll bar, and aftermarket bucket seats with Repa harnesses. The selling dealer acquired this vehicle in August 2021.

The 1973 911 RSR was born of Porsche's desire to win against the likes of the Ferrari Daytona and DeTomaso Pantera in endurance racing. Exploiting the FIA rulebook, Porsche created the ultimate endurance sports car, based on the already-outstanding 911 RS. Notable changes for the RSR over the RS are widened bodywork accompanied by wider Fuchs alloy wheels, a larger and higher-revving 2.8L flat-six, brakes based on those from the mighty 917, revised suspension with greater adjustability, and a stripped interior framed by a roll-cage. The purpose-built RSR accomplished its mission on the track, with historic wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and the Targa Florio among others.
