1980 Toyota

Land Cruiser FJ40

What We Like

Toyota’s FJ40 Land Cruiser has become synonymous with near bulletproof reliability. This example is finished in uncommon Pueblo Brown and per the included documentation underwent a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration around 2017-2018, reportedly using only Genuine Toyota parts. Venezuelan purchase and registration documents are included along with images of the vehicle prior to its restoration. Retractable seatbelts were added by the current owner, and full-frame metal doors and soft-top are also included. Whether the new owner puts it on display or hits the trails to experience some of its legendary off-road prowess, this FJ40 will be a great companion.

Vehicle History & Overview

According to the included documentation, this FJ40 was sold new to its Venezuela-based owner in December 1980 and was later imported to the US. Per the included Barrett-Jackson description, the vehicle underwent a complete restoration utilizing Genuine Toyota parts circa 2017. The current owner acquired the vehicle via a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2019. It is being sold on consignment through the listing dealer. Modifications appear to be limited to retractable seat belts. Purchase documents, a Venezuela registration, hard doors, soft-top, and factory owner’s manual are included.

The FJ40-series Land Cruiser was launched in 1960. Thanks to simple body-on-frame construction, reasonable dimensions, and a back-to-basics approach in terms of interior and drivetrain, the FJ40 was very competitive in the marketplace. Over the years the Land Cruiser has earned a reputation for incredible reliability and near-indestructibility. That reputation has helped make the FJ40 and its derivatives very popular among off-roaders as well as for military applications. Production carried through 2001 for the Brazilian market, despite ROW production ending in 1984.
