The included accident-free Carfax report shows records since 1992 and helps verify this 190E’s low mileage and California ownership from new. The selling dealer reportedly bought the vehicle from the original owner in late 2018 and sold it to the second owner around the same time. The selling dealer re-acquired the car in March 2022 and has performed more than $6,600 in service work, including rebuilding the transmission, installing a new water-pump, radiator, thermostat, expansion-tank, valve-cover gasket, spark plugs, four Yokohama tires, a fresh lube/oil/filter service, and more. Two keys and factory books are included.
The 190E was Mercedes-Benz’s first foray into compact luxury sedan segment and launched in 1983 for the US-market. Mercedes is said to have spent over $700-million on R&D and reportedly later stated the car was massively over-engineered. A variety of newer technologies were offered on the 190E, including an anti-lock braking system, airbags, and extensive use of lightweight, high-strength steel that provided excellent occupant protection for the time. Production ended in 1993.
