1985 Toyota

Celica GT-S Convertible 5-Speed

What We Like

Classic 1980s styling, a lively rear-wheel-drive chassis, and legendary reliability are all encompassed in this Celica GT-S convertible. This final-year example is reportedly one of only 1,716 GT-S convertibles with a 5-speed manual produced in 1985. It features long-term ownership of more than 25 years and an accident-free Carfax report. The seller describes this car as a nice "survivor" throughout, including cosmetics and mechanicals. Servicing in the last two years includes a new clutch, master cylinder, and slave cylinder. Modifications appear to be limited to leather front seats and a JVC stereo with XM radio capability. This rarely-seen Celica GT-S is ready to be enjoyed by the next owner rain or shine!

Seller Information

Vehicle History & Overview

The included accident-free Carfax report states that this Celica GT-S was sold new in September 1985 to its first, Missouri-based owner. The seller acquired the vehicle in July 1996 and has added approximately 46,000 of the 129,700 miles shown. Some service records are shown on the Carfax report during the seller’s 26 years of ownership. Modifications appear to be limited to leather front seats and a JVC stereo with XM radio capability. Two keys, a Clymer service manual, and IVAN appraisal are included.

The “A60” Celica was launched in August 1981 and is the last rear-wheel-drive Celica. August 1982 brought about the GT-S trim and introduced an independent rear suspension system, fender flares, wider 14-inch alloy wheels, and a sportier interior with special seats. The GT-S Convertible featured here was launched in 1984 and manufactured under contract for Toyota by California-based Automotive Specialty Company. Less than 5,000 GT-S convertibles were built between 1984 – 1985, with reportedly fewer than 1,800 of those equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. Series production ended in 1985.
