1988 Porsche

911 Carrera Coupe Commemorative Edition

What We Like

Porsche’s 911 has always offered a variety of options allowing an individual to have their own unique take on the legendary sports car. This “Sondermodell” is 1 of 300 US-spec Commemorative Edition examples built, and is finished in Diamond Blue Metallic with a matching Diamond Blue full leather interior. A factory short shift assembly pairs well with tasteful upgrades that include suspension lowered to Euro specs with upgraded sway-bars, a RUF tachometer, and a Blaupunkt CD stereo. More than $14,000 was spent by the selling dealer refurbishing the cylinder heads, replacing the clutch assembly, and more. Those seeking a Special Edition or simply a distinctive 911 should look no further.

Seller Information

Vehicle History & Overview

Porsche reportedly built 875 total Commemorative Edition cars, of which 300 were US models, and only 120 US cars were coupes. Per the included documentation, this 911 was produced on September 18, 1987 and delivered to The Porsche Exchange of Highland Park, Illinois. The first owner purchased the car in May 1989 and it was registered in Illinois until purchased by the apparent second owner in New Jersey December 2009. Per the included clean Carfax report, Ciocca Porsche of Flemington, New Jersey primarily serviced this 911 from May 2010 to May 2015. The selling dealer purchased the vehicle in March 2022 and has spent more than $14,000 refurbishing the cylinder heads, replacing the clutch, and more as detailed below. The owner’s manuals, factory service books, window sticker, Porsche build-sheet, two keys, spare tire, and jack are included.

The “G-series” 911 was launched in 1974 in the US. Visual differences versus its predecessor included a “short-nose” and matching “impact” bumpers to meet new crash standards. By 1988 Porsche had made many revisions including a larger 3.2 liter flat-six developing 217 horsepower and adding the coveted “G50” 5-speed gearbox that improved drivability. Various special editions were offered, each with their own distinct character and color combination while additional standard equipment made the interior more luxurious than ever before. The G-series cars are some of the most sought-after 911s produced thanks to their use of the original suspension design and lack of driver assist systems that offer a pure driving experience.
